Get to know the Guzzlers

We’re so lucky to have some amazing people lining up for both The Guzzler and The Glass Half Full. In the lead up to race day, we’re featuring some of the athlete stories here. In this edition, meet the super speedy Christophe Manchon. While relatively new to trails, Christophe is already putting his stamp on the local scene and can often be found at the pointy end of any field. It will be great to see what he does with The Glass Half Full!

Why are you running The Guzzler?

I was looking for a new challenge this year after running my first marathon last year, so the Guzzler Glass Half Full came along at the perfect time. Being able to race 50km on trails in my own back yard was an opportunity too good to miss!

How long have you been trail or ultra running?

My fiancee Emily introduced me to trail running in 2016 and used to leave me for dead so I thought ‘Wow I’m going to have to get better at this!’ Since then I’ve been hooked.

What’s your proudest trail running moment?

Probably 3rd place at the 2018 Up the Buff, a 25km trail race through the Gold Coast hinterland (see pic).

How will you get through the tough times on course?

Hopefully Emily and my son Raphael will come and see me on course at some point. That and some good old hard work should be enough to get me through!

What’s your goal for the event?

Well it’s a race so I’m obviously going to go my hardest! But given it’s my first ultra the goal will be to get to the finish line in one piece.

Who would be your ultimate race crew?

Whoever can tell the funniest jokes and carry the most bananas.
